Note: this is an archived copy of Paul Routenburg's excellent Killed By Hype site which was previously located at http://plaza.powersurfr.com/paul/punk.html and http://ca.geocities.com/kbd77@rogers.com/punk.html. It contains a lot of great information about punk records so I decided to keep it alive here after the demise of GeoCities.
Another series featuring predominantly UK records that began in 1997.
These LPs tend to be more powerpop oriented with some punk mixed in. I had
never seen or heard of Volume 1 until I saw it mentioned in the liner notes
of Volume 2 where it says it was a very limited issue. At the end of 1998
Volume 1 became widely available though I've been told that this is a remastered
version of the original Volume 1 that did come out in a very limited edition.
The series ended in 2000 with volumes 8, 9 and 10 released as a group, each
in an edition of only 100 copies.

Teenage Treats Volume 1
- Killer (Killers, 1978, from only LP [Killer])
- Idle Rich (Razar, 1978, from 2.7")
- On Me (Bears, 1979, from 2.7")
- Teenage Treats (Wasps, 1977, from 1.7")
- Language School (Tours, 1979, from 1.7")
- The Car (Apartment, 1980, from only 7")
- Starship 22 (Innocent Vicars, 1980, from Class Of 81 compilation LP)
- Bye Byes Ain't Nice (Telescope, 1977, from only 7"?)
- The Russians Are Coming (AD 1984, 1979, from only 7")
- Man From Uncle (Moskow, 1978, from only 7"?)
- Wooden Gangsters (Vibrant Thigh, 1979, from A Manchester Collection compilation LP)
- B52G (Tea Set, 1978, from 1.7")
Slightly above average, mostly powerpop obscurities. Killers, Razar, Wasps,
Tours and Apartment are all worthwhile. The Wasps and Tours are repeated
on Volume 2. There was a very limited first edition of this LP and a more
widely available (as of the end of 1998) remastered version. I haven't a
clue how you would tell the 2 apart having never seen the original version.
Rating: 7.5.
Teenage Treats Volume 2
- Teenage Treats (Wasps, 1977, from 1.7")
- Language School (Tours, 1979, from 1.7")
- New Wave Love (Dole, 1978, from only 7")
- Paper Dolls (Screams, USA, 1979, from only 7")
- Big City Boys (Warm Jets, 1979, from 1.7"?)
- Total Control (Red Rage, 1980, from only 7")
- Nora's Diary (Jimmy Edwards & The Profile, 1979, from 1.7")
- Teenage Rebel (Strike, 1980, from only 7")
- Love & A Molotov Cocktail (Flys, 1977, from 1.7" [Bunch of Five EP])
- Gutter Kids (Dyaks, 1978, from only 7")
- Real People (Exile, 1977, from 2.7")
- Answers (Neon Hearts, 1978, from 2.7")
Some good tracks but this is mostly a powerpop record. If you're looking
for raw, lo-fi, unproduced, screaming punk obscurities, go somewhere else.
The Red Rage track is about as close to punk as you'll get.
Rating: 7.5.

- Money=Time (Paranoia, 1979, from Voxhall Tracks compilation EP)
- Apathy (Exits, 1978, from 2.7")
A very good LP, with the Surgeons, Dregs, Exits and 3 tracks from the Voxhall Tracks EP. More punk than Volume 2.
Rating: 8.
Teenage Treats Volume 4

- Nervous Breakdown (White Heat, 1979, from 1.7")

- Go (Heartbeats, 1981, from only 7")

- You're All I Wanted And A Car (The Voice of the Puppets, 1980, from only 7")
- Can't Wait For '78 (Wasps, 1977, from Live At The Vortex compilation LP)
More of a powerpop sound than Volume 3. Some interesting osbcurities though
like the Tunnelrunners, Voice of the Puppets and the Hobbs.
Rating: 7.5.

- Metro Police (The Cause, 1979, from only 7")
- You've Got Nothing (Bleach Boys, 1978, from only 7")
- Little Sir Echo (Surprises, 1978, from only 7")
Other than the Exits and Bleach Boys this LP is pretty unmemorable. None
of the obscurities are classics by any stretch of the imagination.
Rating: 6.5.
Teenage Treats Volume 6
- Abstract Art (Flying Colours, 1981, from only 7")
- The Russians Are Coming (Shadowfax, 1980, from only 7")

A lot of obscurities here. Interesting to listen to once or twice but
with a few exceptions not especially great. Includes a few truly wimpy pop
tracks.
Rating: 7.
Teenage Treats Volume 7

- Rock Stars (Numbers, 1979, from only 7")
- False Death (Fraebbblarnir, Iceland, 1979, from 2.7")

- On The Beach (Da Biz, 1980, from only 7")
- While I'm Still Young (Autographs, 1978, from only 7")
Still more obscurities! More punk (at least as this series goes) and overall
better than #6. One of the better volumes of the series, so far.
Rating: 8.
Teenage Treats Volume 8
- Ascension Day (Razar, 1978, from 1.7")
- Juvenile (Dalex, 1981, from only 7")
- Blame It On The Youth (Xtract, 1982, from only 7")
- Rather B. Crazy (Charge, 1979, from 1.7")
- I'm The One (White SS, 1978, from only 7")
- Radio Iceland (Those Intrinsic Intellectuals, 1980, from only 7")
- Action By Example (Demons, 1980, from 3.7")

- Walking The Tightrope (The Arnold, 1980, from When LP)
- World War Album (Two Fingered Approach, 1982, from only 7")
A few of these are already well known, but overall an excellent collection
of more obscurities. Quite punk, at least as this series goes. Only 100
copies made so you might have missed it by now.
Rating: 8.
Teenage Treats Volume 9
- Private Mail (Sneeky Feelin's, 1979, from only 7")
- Listen To Your Radio (Donkees, 1981, from 6.7")
- My Town (Ghosts, 1980, from only 7")
- The Way I See It (Brakes, 1979, from only 7")
- South Africa House (Disco Students, 1979, from 1.7")
- Exceptions (Stingrays, 1980, from 1.7")
- Talking Hands (Collectors, 1980, from only 7")

- Hard Day At The Office (Reasons, 1978, from only 7")
- It Never Happens Like It Does On The Telly (Spasms, 1980, from only 7")
After 9 of these you should know what to expect by now. A couple of lame
ones managed to sneak though but still a worthwhile LP. 100 copies were available.
Rating: 7.5.
Teenage Treats Volume 10
- Don't Mess Around (Cheeky, 1980, from only 7")
- Top Of The Pops (Disco Zombies, 1979, from 1.7")
- These Boots Are Made For Walkin' (Fulham Furies, 1978, from only 7")
- Wild Rover (Jeep, 1980, from one of several 7"s)
- Colours (Tunnelrunners, 1982, from 2.7" [100 MPH EP])
- Cinema Girl (White Car, 1981, from only 7")
- Life After Death (Funboy Five, 1979, from only 7")
- Girl On The Bus (Thin Yoghurts, 1980, from only 7")
- Esther's Not On The Phone (Merciful Release All-Stars, 1980, from Ready In The Rhythm Section LP [split with The Syndromes])
- Get Out (Telegents, 1981, from only 7")
- The Sound Of London Town (AD'80, 1980, from only 7")
- Weekend Girl (Bozos, 1978, from only 7")
Similar in sound to Volume 9. There are quite likely still enough UK obscurities
out there for another 10 volumes, but this is the end of the road for this
series. A fine one it was, too. 100 copies of this one as well, so you likely
blinked and missed it.
Rating: 7.5.
